KAILEY FRAER
PERFORMER EDUCATOR CHOREOGRAPHER STUDENT
ABOUT KAILEY
Kailey Fraer is a student, creator, performer, and teacher from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Currently, she is a senior at Slippery Rock University (SRU), where she is earning a BFA in Dance with a double concentration in performance and choreography and dance entrepreneurship. Growing up Kailey trained at a local studio where she developed both her technical and creative skills. She decided to pursue dance at the collegiate level to further her dance knowledge and experience. While studying at SRU, she has had the opportunity to work closely with faculty, fellow students, and guest choreographers. Within her time as a student, she was cast in Teena Marie Custer’s The Shade, Cameron McKinney’s Strange Attractor, Nathan Trice’s Their Speech is Silver, Their Silence is Gold, and Martha Graham’s Steps in the Street set by Elizabeth Auclaire. Kailey had the privilege of performing at the Joyce Theater as part of the University Partners Showcase in 2023. Also, the vice president of the National Honors Society for Dance Arts (NHSDA), Kailey values involvement in her community. She has worked with fellow students to choreograph and premiere two group works, a duet, and three solos throughout her time at SRU. Kailey has also attended various dance workshops/masterclasses to widen her perspective. She has been to Orsolina28, Dance Italia, and Springboard X. She is thankful for all dance has given her so far and is excited for life post-graduation.

ARTISTIC STATEMENT
I have always felt that dance was just as much a part of me as breathing. I cannot remember a time I was not a dancing or a day where I did not think about how I would dance next. When I watch dance I feel so alive, and when I dance I feel so free. I never want to live in a world where I do not have movement. It makes me a better person, and for that I am forever indebted to this art form.

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
As an educator I strive to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for my students. My main goal is to facilitate a class that promotes student growth and joy. I believe that students are responsible for their own learning and development. Throughout class I encourage students to find individuality and take risks. When teaching I use imagery and rhythmic patterns to help the students connect to the movement. As a teacher I believe I have just as much to learn from my students as they do from me. I know that dance educators do not only teach technique, but they teach life skills. I want my students to not only grow as artists but as humans.
